Leadership in Motion: CPT’s Journey of Impact

For most, summer is a time to slow down, unwind and refuel for the stretch to year end. However, for the NASBA Center for the Public Trust (CPT) team, this is a very busy season. NASBA and our partner organizations have regional meetings and conferences over the summer, and the CPT is onsite to develop, empower and promote ethical leadership.

In June, NASBA held its Western and Eastern Regional Meetings in New Orleans, LA, and Philadelphia, PA, respectively. The CPT was present at both regional meetings to share results from this past year and to promote the CPT Speaker Series with state board members. Each meeting was a success as the team identified several people willing and interested in representing the CPT as  speakers  on college campuses. In collaboration with the Eastern Regional Meeting , the CPT hosted the annual  StudentCPT Leadership Conference (SLC) in Philadelphia with 59 students from 36 colleges and universities.

In addition to the NASBA Regional Meetings, the CPT had a presence at the American Accounting Association (AAA) Annual Conference in Chicago, IL, alongside NASBA. The CPT was onsite to meet members of the academy and share information about StudentCPT chapters, the CPT Speaker Series, and the Ethical Leadership Certification Program (ELCP). CPT President Sedrik Newbern also moderated a panel discussing the topic, Beyond the Degree: The Real Value of Certifications for Business Students. Panelists included Roni Jackson, Co-founder/Co-CEO of Red Flag Mania, Matt Kessler, Director of Campus Recruiting for RSM, and Malana White, Senior Director, University Talent Acquisition for KPMG.

Lastly, Newbern attended the annual conferences for NABA and the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA) in Las Vegas, NV, and Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) in San Antonio, TX, to represent NASBA and the CPT. These organizations have active and engaged student memberships, some of which the CPT has already established partnerships with on college campuses. Attendance at these conferences has led to more discussions on how the CPT can partner with them to support their student members with programming like the CPT Speaker Series and ELCP to contribute to the growth of the pipeline.

Although the summer has been busy, it has been very productive. The CPT looks forward to sharing the impact from these connections made in the near future.
