Lowe’s, one of the largest home improvement retailers in the world, is committed to helping homeowners, renters and pros improve their homes and businesses. Now, the retail chain has invested $9 million in grants to support nonprofits’ dedicated to training the next generation of tradespeople as part of its Gable Grants Program. The purpose of the grants is to help meet the demand for more trade workers and increase available job opportunities.
The grants support training programs focused on carpentry and construction, HVAC, electrical, plumbing and appliance repair. Janice Dupré, a Lowe’s executive vice president and chair of the Lowe’s Foundation said, “Through modern training methods, these nonprofits are unlocking the workforce’s potential while building an economy that rewards skills, not just titles or four-year degrees.”
Lowe’s specifies that the Gable Grants Program is a $50 million commitment over five years, started in 2023, that directly supports technical colleges and community-based nonprofit organizations to recruit, train and prepare 50,000 new job-ready tradespeople to help fill the skilled trades gap.
