When you prioritize ethics in leadership, the people you interact with will know and understand that you are trying to make the best decisions that impact stakeholders in a positive way. Over the course of several Ethical Leadership Podcast episodes, guests have offered wisdom and advice that can serve our readers well. Here are some highlights from the podcast:

How Do You Become a Viable Leader?

“If you lead with ethics and integrity, which means you are thinking about other stakeholders, whenever you make decisions and you’re conscious of trying to do the right things, that positions you to be the type of leader where people won’t question your motive. People won’t think there’s selfish intent behind what you’re doing, so therefore, your leadership is sustainable, it is viable, and people begin to respect you with that.”

Why Is Ethical Leadership So Important in The Marketplace Today, Particularly for Young Professionals Just Getting Started in Their Career?

“It’s the core of what you’ve got to be about. Companies don’t want hire somebody if they think that person lies or that person is a cheat, or worry about them leaving early, getting there late. Companies want to hire a person whose basic core is truthfulness, transparency and trustworthiness. An ethical person is the one who can appreciate the truth. What young people going into the marketplace need to ask themselves is, who am I really? Knowing and understanding who you are is important.”

– NASBA CPT Founder David Costello

Do Ethical Issues Stop Once You Get Experience and You Know What’s Happening in The World?

“It’s a lifelong endeavor. An author named Dan O’ Riley wrote a book called The Honest Truth about dishonesty. It’s a book where he says ethics or leadership is a lifelong endeavor. Ethics is not about perfection. Ethics is about a quality of life, a lifestyle.”

Why Is Ethical Decision Making Important to Any of Us That Are in Positions Where We Make Decisions for Organizations?

“When the time comes, your groundwork is already laid. That’s why it’s important to learn these things in college. Now’s the time that students are starting to form their ethical values that carry forward into business. And drawing lines in terms of what you will and will not do early, is so critical and so important, particularly for young professionals, because if we’re able to do that, then when you get in the moment, the pressure is less.”
