Ethics Matters
Q3 2024
On August 1, I joined the NASBA Center for the Public Trust (CPT) as president and NASBA as chief ethics officer. This came after I previously held the title of operations director and then consultant to the CPT for the last three years while I was an entrepreneur-in-residence at Western Kentucky University. I am excited to rejoin the CPT and continue our efforts to develop, empower and promote ethical leaders.
I want to share with you the strategies and focus of the CPT over the next quarter, which center on expanding our reach for increased interactions and engagement with students, recent college graduates and young professionals.
StudentCPT Chapters and Speaker Series
In recent years, student organizations have evolved at colleges and universities across the U.S., and we see the need to also evolve at the CPT. We will continue to launch and support StudentCPT chapters due to the budding number of chapters that are experiencing growth and success. However, we are currently looking at unique ways to partner with other organizations in an effort to provide ethics programming on campuses that are struggling to recruit and maintain a sizable StudentCPT chapter. Additionally, we are launching a CPT Speaker Series where any college or university can request a speaker, either on campus or virtually. While requesting a CPT representative to speak is not a new practice, it was not formerly promoted as an offering to engage institutions that did not already have a StudentCPT chapter established. For more information on the CPT Speaker Series and to request speakers, please visit the StudentCPT website.
CPT Connect
Young professionals have reported a prevalence of unethical behavior in the workplace, and they express the desire for deeper mentoring relationships and tools for ethical decision making. With thousands of CPT alumni now in the workforce, we have created CPT Connect as a space for them to connect, mentor students and find ethics resources and support needed by today’s young professionals. CPT Connect is a private Facebook group that requires individuals to submit a membership request to join. The request is then reviewed and vetted by CPT staff who will admit eligible individuals to the group. More to come on this initiative as we continue to build out our offerings in the coming months.
Get Involved
As you can see, the CPT is making significant strides to advance and promote ethical decision making. Thank you for your continued support as we continue to explore opportunities to engage students and professionals and create programming for ethical leaders. If you would like to get involved, please feel free to contact me at [email protected].
Lead with Integrity,
